Who I work with
I work with adults who need help with many difficult life problems such as learning to cope with traumatic experiences and events, dealing with grief, depression and anxiety or managing harmful emotions or behaviours.
How much therapy is needed?
This depends entirely on the individual and their needs. The best growth and healing outcomes result from attending therapy sessions on a regular basis. Ideally, our sessions are held on the same day and time, every week. Whilst it is important to try and attend regular weekly sessions, I understand that sometimes this is not possible, so I will try to work around these times with you.
Is counselling confidential?
In most cases, yes. However, there are some exceptions to this. These aspects are discussed in the first session.
The first session
You can expect be heard and supported in a safe, non-judgmental environment. In the first session I explain how I work with clients and give you the opportunity to share what has brought you to counselling and any specific goals. Questions are welcome.
What are your rates and how do I pay?
50-minute counselling sessions are offered to clients, usually on a weekly basis. Bank transfer is the preferred payment method and funds must be cleared before the session. If, after our first session, we decide to work together on an ongoing basis, we will discuss how you would like to proceed and discuss fees.
What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?
If you need to change your appointment for any reason, please provide 48 hours notice. Full fees apply if cancellation is after the 48 hour notice period.
Is online therapy as effective as seeing a therapist in person?
Online therapy can be just as effective as face to face and in some cases better. The Zoom platform is used for reliability and security.
How do I prepare for an online session?
Please find a comfortable, quiet, private setting where you can’t be disturbed. Ensure all devices are turned off and turn off the ringer and any notifications, iif using a mobile phone, to minimise distractions. Position your device on a flat, stable surface. Choose a light room and position your head and body in the frame. Wearing headphones can reduce echo and provides an extra level of confidentiality. Also, please have a drink to hand.
